Nikro Vent Sanitizing: The West Palm Beach Owner’s Guide

If your Nikro vent sanitizing system has quit mid-cycle or the UV lamp won’t fire, here’s the short version: we stock the common replacement parts, we install them across West Palm Beach, and the typical repair lands between $165 and $420 depending on which component failed. Most jobs are done in one visit. What we see most often is a homeowner who notices the sanitizer’s indicator light is out, or the unit hums but no mist or UV output reaches the ducts, and they’re not sure whether to replace a lamp, a ballast, or the whole assembly. That’s a fair question, and this page answers it.

Which Nikro Models This Applies To

The vent sanitizing systems we service most in West Palm Beach are the Nikro UV-500 and UV-700 series, along with the portable SP series units that some contractors use for whole-home sanitizing treatments. The compatibility gotcha to know: Nikro changed the lamp socket design between earlier UV-500s made before roughly 2014 and the current production, so a lamp that fits one era will not seat correctly in the other. The part numbers are printed on a small label on the lamp base itself. If that label has faded from heat, measure the lamp’s overall length including the pins. The UV-500 takes a 14-inch lamp, the UV-700 takes an 18-inch. We can match either. On the OEM versus aftermarket question, we lean toward genuine Nikro lamps and ballasts because the wavelengths and output tolerances are tighter than most generics, and a lamp that under-delivers UVC in a Florida attic is not doing the job you paid for. We do stock a quality aftermarket equivalent for the SP series filters because Nikro’s own are frequently backordered, but we’ll tell you which is which before you decide.

Signs Your Nikro Vent Sanitizing Is Failing

  • The indicator light is off but the blower runs. This almost always points to either a burned-out UV lamp or a failed ballast. Lamps wear out on a predictable schedule; ballasts tend to die from the heat and humidity cycles of a South Florida attic.
  • Weak or intermittent mist output. On the SP series, a clogged atomizer tip or a filter that has absorbed too much humidity produces a sputter instead of a fine mist. West Palm Beach’s wet season accelerates this.
  • A faint burning odor near the unit. That’s usually the ballast overheating. Shut the unit off at the breaker and don’t run it again until it’s been looked at. A hot ballast can damage the lamp and the housing.
  • Visible cracking or yellowing on the lamp housing. UV exposure degrades plastic over time. Once the housing is brittle, the seal fails and dust and moisture get in, which shortens the new lamp’s life.
  • The unit runs but your ducts still smell musty after a treatment. Could mean the UVC output has dropped below effective levels, or the lamp is old enough that it’s producing visible light but not enough sanitizing wavelength. Lamps lose potency long before they stop glowing.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here in West Palm Beach, a UV lamp replacement on a Nikro unit runs $165 to $240 installed. A ballast replacement runs $220 to $320. If both are shot, or the housing is cracked, you’re looking at $340 to $420 for the full assembly. What drives the range is which unit you own and whether we need to pull the housing to get at the ballast. Every quote we give is a written flat price before any work begins, not an estimate with room to grow. The price includes the part, the labor, the trip, and our follow-up. We put the warranty in writing too, covering the repair for 365 days from the date of service. If the covered repair fails in that window, we come back and make it right, no charge. We don’t pad the invoice. We tell you what’s actually wrong and what it costs to fix, and if the part is fine and something else caused the issue, we’ll say so.

DIY or Call Us?

There are things you can safely check yourself. Is the unit getting power? Is the breaker on? Is the lamp visibly blackened at one end, which means it burned out at end of life? That’s about where a homeowner should stop. Nikro vent sanitizing systems run on line voltage, and the ballast stores charge even when the unit is unplugged. A ballast swap done wrong is a shock hazard and a fire risk, especially in an attic in August. The housing sits in your ductwork, and if you crack the seal or mount the lamp misaligned, you reduce the output without knowing it. What we recommend: do the visual checks, then call us at (728) 231-8154 if anything looks off. We’ll bring the parts with us so the repair usually happens on the first visit.
